Naien is Iocated in the southern margin of the central desert of Iran with a 145 kilometer distance east of Isfahen; in a desert region but bue to the fairly high mountains in its south west, the sity enjoys a mild climate. During the Middle Ages Naien was part of Fras province . Hamdollah Mostofi and Khand mir have considered Naien as a suburb of Yazd but during the realm of Nasir-al –ddin Shah it became part of Lsfahan province . There is no exact date as to the city , but because of a monument called Tarikh Ghale "history castle" which belongs to Sasanid era and the dialect of the people which was influenced by that of Zoroastrians in the old days, the age of the sity can be estimated .

The main mosque of the city belongs to the 4th century luner calendar and is an evidence of how old the city is. Production of tiles and ceramics dates back to very ancient days and the products of the pottery centers were exported during the 17th and 18th centuries.
Some examples of these products are present in Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK.
Production of some cotton dabrics such as canvas, unbleached calico, pile less carpet weaving , feting and Barak weaving were among the popular jobs in Naien . However , the most popular produced material in Naien was Aba(man's loose , seleeveless cloak open in front ) whivh was well known in all Islamic countries.
After world war II when weaving Aba which was one of people's main jobs declined, carpet weaving became very common instead . Because of importing foreign textiles and the change in people's wey of dressing , Aba weaving which was a traditional profession of the people of Naien declined and in return the erudition of spinning delicate hanks for produving delicate fabrics changed into the produvtion of small knotted carpets which lead to the rapid expansion of these products, despite its small quantity , all over the local and foreign markets .
Today Naien carpet is considered as the most excellent carpets of Iran due to its coloring and selicacy.
